SBA Moves to Terminate 628 Additional 8(a) Firms

The Small Business Administration has initiated termination proceedings against 628 firms in the 8(a) Business Development Program for refusing to produce financial records.

On March 4, 2026, the Small Business Administration announced that it had initiated termination proceedings against 628 firms in the 8(a) Business Development Program. The agency stated that the firms had refused to produce three years of financial documents for SBA’s eligibility review.

The March 4 action follows the January 2026 suspension of 1,091 firms and the February 2026 termination proceedings against 154 Washington, D.C.-based firms for failure to meet “economic disadvantage” eligibility requirements. Together, these actions reflect a coordinated agency effort to confirm continuing eligibility across the 8(a) portfolio.

Firms in receipt of a termination notice should consult counsel promptly. The notice ordinarily triggers a response window, and termination from the 8(a) Program has immediate consequences for the firm’s ability to receive 8(a) awards and to participate in joint ventures with mentors.
